Allow donors to not share their emails with campaigns/organizations on ActBlue

For any of us who have donated to a political campaign before, we have experienced the after-effects: countless cold calls, emails, and texts for more fundraising solicitations. Thankfully, ActBlue provides the option for donors to opt out of sharing their contact information to campaigns and organizations they donate to!

This step-by-step guide is intended for people who use ActBlue community forms, which allows for donor organizers to raise funds for Democratic candidates and organizations.

Step by Step

  1. Visit your ActBlue Express Fundraising page.

  2. Go to the fundraising form you would like to offer donors to opt out of the organization’s/candidate’s email list for, and select “Actions” -> “Edit and preview.”

  3. Click on the large blue “Edit” button on the top left.

  4. Click on “Recipients.”

  5. Scroll down to the bottom which says “Email permissions pop-up” and select “Yes.” You’re welcome to preview the email permissions pop-up donors will receive after their donation by clicking on “Preview email permissions pop-up.”

  6. Click the large green “Publish” button.

Please Note

As of the last edit of this page (8/8/2022), ActBlue does not have documentation for this feature on their website. This step-by-step created by Donor Organizer Hub is subject to change if/as ActBlue changes their user flows.

If you notice a tweak to the user flow, email haley@donororganizerhub.org and we’ll get this updated!
